Football championships head back to Arlington

All University Interscholastic League (UIL) football state championship games will be played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington for the next two years, including the 11-man and six-man football championship games. 

The new schedule places all 12 games in a four-day span, from Dec. 14-17.

The Lamar University athletic family lost a dear friend Friday with the passing of Charline Dauphin at the age of 86.

The Lamar baseball Cardinals had all the momentum in the world heading into the Southland Conference Tournament last week in Sugar Land with a 33-19 record, yet the Cards faltered and were eliminated in two games, losing to Central Arkansas 3-0 and Stephen F. Austin 5-2. 

Lamar had swept SFA in a three-game series the week before the tournament, outscoring the Lumberjacks 35-15.

The tournament elimination marked the end of a historic career for Lamar coach Jim Gilligan.

A federal grand jury sitting in Kansas City, Missouri, returned an indictment against a former professional basketball player in the NBA charging him with corruptly interfering with the internal revenue laws, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, obstruction of justice and aggravated identity theft, announced Acting Assistant Attorney General Caroline D. Ciraolo of the Justice Department’s Tax Division and U.S. Attorney Tammy Dickinson of the Western District of Missouri.
