Lamar makes it official - back to the Southland in 2023

Southland Conference Commissioner Chris Grant and Lamar University President Jaime Taylor announced an agreement to bring the founding member school back to the Southland to compete in all sports beginning with the 2023-24 academic year.

In a surprising move, Lamar University athletics will leave the Western Athletic Conference after one year and return to their original home - the Southland Conference. A press conference will be held Friday, April 8, at 11 a.m. on campus to make the move official.

Harlem Globetrotters return to Ford Park on Friday

Finalists announced for Willie Ray Smith Awards

Finalists for the 30th annual Willie Ray Smith Awards were announced April 4 at the MCM Eleganté in Beaumont. Dubbed the “Heisman Trophy of High School Football in Southeast Texas,” the finalists included four offensive and four defensive players.

Beaumont United names Colbert Sr. new head football coach

Beaumont ISD named Darrel Colbert Sr. as the Beaumont United High School head football coach and campus coordinator. A press conference will be held at noon on Monday, March 28, at the Jackson Performing Arts Center inside Beaumont United High School.

Lamar University Athletic Director Marco Born has resigned. Born, who was hired in 2018 to replace Jason Henderson, took an "unplanned leave of absence for the foreseeable future" on Jan. 13. A national search will begin immediately.

Lamar tennis duo earns weekly conference honors

For the second time this season, Lamar University’s freshman duo of Juan Jose Rodriguez and Daniel Sancho Arbizu have been named Western Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Players of the Week. Rodriguez earned the honor in both singles and doubles, while Sancho Arbizu received doubles honors.

LU baseball to hold jersey retirement ceremony

The Lamar University baseball program will hold a jersey retirement ceremony of three former Cardinals - David Bernsen, Jim Gilligan and Kevin Millar - who have already had their jerseys retired, but an official ceremony was never held in their honor.
