A popping cork fished over a live mullet, shrimp or mud minnow

One thing is certain in the world of fishing – corks will almost always lead the way to more fish, especially when you are after reds and trout during the hot summer months.

The solution was simple – rig up a popping cork, use the cast net to box a couple dozen finger mullet and see what happens. The end result was three reds and two trout within an hour.

The Sabine River in Orange has been a very busy body of water, from recent Bassmaster fishing tournaments to thundering tunnel boat racing. Now for the first time, the waterway will see a “Rumble on the River” as TxH20 Racing presents jet ski racing Saturday, July 14, and Sunday, July 15, at the Orange Boat Ramp (408 Pier Road).

“This is something new that everyone will enjoy,” said Brandy Judice, Orange CVB coordinator. “There will be no charge to attend this family-friendly event. Concessions and kids activities onsite will also be available.”
