Morgan shines at UIL swim meet

Lumberton High School freshman Jayde Morgan placed second in the Class 4A girls 100-yard breaststroke at the UIL Swimming and Diving State Championships on Feb. 15-16 in San Antonio. Morgan, who is also the school’s first swimmer to medal, finished seventh in the 500-yard girls freestyle.

Morgan sets new Lumberton swim records

Lumberton freshman Jayde Morgan broke the school record in the 100-meter breaststroke and 500-meter freestyle at the 4A district swim meet in times of 1:10.56 and 5:42.78, respectively. The breaststroke time currently ranks second in Class 4A. Morgan will next compete in the 4A regional meet Feb.

Rivers shines as MVP in Birmingham Bowl victory

Former Beaumont United standout Chandler Rivers was named the Birmingham Bowl MVP after he and the Duke Blue Devils beat Troy, 17-10, on Dec. 23 in Birmingham, Alabama. Rivers, a sophomore, finished with five tackles (two for a loss), three pass breakups and one quarterback hurry.
