The LCM Bear Varsity Tennis team competed at the Ms. Sheila Invitational Tournament held at Lamar University on Friday, March 31, LCM CISD Community Relations Specialist Sherry Combs said in a release. Coach Cory Parsons announced the tennis results.

LSCPA Seahawks suspend 11 players

Lamar State College-Port Arthur is enforcing a two-game suspension of 11 of its softball players after an incident that involved members of the LSU-Eunice softball program.

LSCPA Director of Athletics Scott Street handed down the disciplinary action March 27 after an investigation into an incident that took place early Wednesday morning, March 22.

Redshirt senior Kiandra Bowers will return for a fifth season with LU.

Junior forward Colton Weisbrod was chosen as a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches’ (NABC) All-District team. The Nederland native is the first Cardinal chosen for the group since Kenny Dawkins and Jay Brown were picked nine years ago.

The second-team honor comes following a season where Weisbrod helped the Lamar to 19 wins in the regular season and a postseason berth, both for the first time since 2012.

The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bear 9th/JV Tennis Team competed at the District Tournament hosted by Orangefield on March 22, and three members brought home medals from the competition, LCM CISD Community Relations Coordinator Sherry Combs said in a release.

Mike Schultz has already put together an impressive staff of assistant coaches during the short offseason after being hired as the new head football coach at Lamar Univeristy on Dec. 22, 2016. As spring camp started March 21, Schultz had to replace offensive line coach Brad Bedell, who left for the same position at Boise State late last week.

Schultz wasted no time and hit another big-time hire replacing Bedell with Jamal Powell, who comes over from James Madison University last season after going 14-1 and win the FCS National Championship.
