LU Soccer Team Wins Academic Award

LU’s soccer team continues to be honored by the United Soccer Coaches organization for the success of last season. This time though, the squad is being honored for their work off the field. The Cardinals were selected as one the USC’s 801 College Team Academic Award winners.

The 2023 Orangefield “Has Beens” Men’s Summer League Basketball season concluded Aug. 15. With this year’s theme being ’80s cartoons, GI Joe finished the season with nine consecutive wins and defeated ThunderCats 62-45 in the championship.

Bob West, a longtime Southeast Texas sports editor and personality, passed away July 28 after a battle with colon cancer at the age of 79. Born in Mexico, Missouri in 1944, West moved to Southeast Texas in 1965 to attend Lamar Tech, then later served in the Texas National Guard.
