‘Christmas in July’  trike races for CASA

American Legion Post 49 in Orange will host the second Semi-Annual Adult Tricycle Races at the Legion Hall in downtown Orange on Saturday, July 18.

“Christmas in July” is the theme for the races, which will benefit Court Appointed Special Advocates for children. CASA is the voice of the abused and neglected children who get caught up in our court system. Twenty-five “off road” tricycles will be donated for foster children after they provide fun and entertainment at the Legion tournament.

As many as 80 drivers are expected to race inside the Legion Hall; each of them will collect donation pledges to support their racing. In the first set of races, donations brought in by the drivers averaged more than $50 per driver.

Spectators are asked to bring four canned goods or cash donations toward the food bank at Orange Christian Services.

During the races, food prepared by the American Legion Auxiliary will be or sale, and a cash bar will be available.

In addition to bragging rights, the top three drivers will be presented with trophies, and the driver raising the most in cash donations will also be presented with the “Big Wheel” award.

The American Legion Hall is at 108 Green Ave. in downtown Orange. Driver registration begins at 9 a.m., with the first qualifying race starting at 11 a.m. For those who want to stay longer, there will be karaoke in the hall following the racing tournament.
