18-wheeler fire on Interstate 10 in Orange County

At approximately 12:15p.m. Wednesday, June 15, the Texas Department of Public Safety received a report of an 18-wheeler on fire in the eastbound traffic lanes of Interstate 10 in Orange County near mile marker 871. An International truck tractor semi-trailer towing live chickens experienced a tire blowout that sparked a fire.  At the time of the crash, the vehicle was transporting approximately 6,000 chickens.

About 2,000 chickens died in the fire.

This incident involved only the 18-wheeler, and there are no reports of any injuries.

The Texas Animal Commission has been notified of the incident.
