19th Annual Cops and Kids great success for Orange County
Close to 1800 people showed up to Claiborne West Park on Friday, June 14 to take part in the 19th Annual Cops and Kids event for Orange County. Police officers, sheriff’s deputies, state troopers, firemen and numerous people representing other emergency and safety services participated to make the event a huge success.
Emergency personnel showed children how to use a fire hose, taught them about the equipment utilized by professionals during emergencies and generally gave the families attending an educational and good time. In addition to the man displays, children could have their photos taken with a variety of backgrounds, have their faces painted and enjoy treats like watermelon, snow cones, cotton candy, hot dogs and more. An inflated slide kept kiddos further entertained, as did a train ride around the park.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office’s emergency command center was on display. An air rescue helicopter landed at the park as fascinated children and adults watched. Children climbed on board rescue boats and inside the caged backseats of patrol cars.
“The kids really loved,” OCSO Sheriff Keith Merrit said of the event. “It was just tremendous.”
