A fatal New Year’s Day accident claimed the life of a Vidor man, reports the Vidor Police Department. James “Jimmy” Earl Livingston, 60, died in a car accident Jan. 1.

According to Vidor Police Chief Dave Shows, officers responded to a one-vehicle accident in the area of Cornell Road and South Main at 2:27 a.m. Investigators at the scene discovered a large Chevrolet truck left the roadway and struck a utility pole. The truck was upside down with the utility pole embedded in the frame. Officers discovered Livingston, the driver and lone occupant, deceased upon arrival. Judge David Peck ordered an autopsy.

Chief Shows reports it took a long time to free the truck from the utility pole due to the severity of the crash. Power to the area was off for while on Jan. 1, but Entergy reportedly had it restored at about 9 a.m.

It is unknown why Livingston veered off road.
