Alcohol use suspected in crash that closed I-10

Beaumont police officers responded to a major crash at I 10 over MLK Parkway in the early morning of Feb. 25. According to a press release, upon arrival at 12: 32 a.m. officers observed a silver Honda Accord under the box trailer of an 18 wheeler. The 22-year-old female driver was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be removed with the fire department’s assistance and transported by EMS to the hospital. Interstate 10 was completely shut down and traffic detoured to the service road at MLK and then back to I 10 at the next entrance ramp. The interstate was shut down until shortly after 2 a.m. The driver was treated and released from the hospital.    

Alcohol use is a suspected factor for the cause of the crash and it is still under investigation.
