Argument turns deadly in Port Arthur

Police in Port Arthur are investigating a homicide after a stabbing resulted in the death of 31-year-old Roderick Wiltz a few days after he was attacked during an argument, reports the Port Arthur Police Department (PAPD).

PAPD officers responded to 3740 Gulfway Drive in reference to the stabbing on Aug. 10. Investigation revealed that suspect Leroy Gipson and Wiltz became involved in a verbal altercation that escalated into physical violence. Police report Gipson stabbed Wiltz with a knife to the upper body. Wiltz was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Beaumont for treatment. Following the incident, he was listed as being in critical but stable condition. However, Wiltz died Aug. 13 due to “complications from his injuries,” according to police.

Gipson was located by PAPD officers shortly after the aggravated assault and taken into custody. The case is being forwarded to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office for review.
