Assault and battery: police arrest one for stabbing, family violence

Police in Beaumont arrested a man who they say stabbed one person and choked his pregnant wife at a local motel in the early morning hours of Aug. 6.

According to Officer Carol Riley of the Beaumont Police Department (BPD), Monday, officers responded to Motel 6 Room No. 246 at 220 I-10 North in reference to a stabbing. Upon arricval at the scene, officers located the victim, a 38-year-old Beaumont man, on the north side of the Motel 6 parking lot. He was transported to St. Elizabeth's Hospital with multiple stab wounds and a fractured skull. Officers located the suspect, identified by police as 38-year-old Robert Rodriguez, a transient, in the McDonald’s parking lot.

Investigators learned the two men were in a motel room with other witnesses when Rodriguez and the victim got into a verbal argument that turned violent. Rodriguez reportedly stabbed and assaulted that victim as well as injuring his pregnant wife, who was also at the hotel and who police indicated Rodriguez assaulted and choked.

Rodriguez was transported to Jefferson County Jail and booked in for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and assault family violence.
