Assault on the elderly: grand jury indicts Beaumont man for injury to a senior

A Jefferson County Grand Jury indicted 39-year-old Walter Cobey Wilson of Beaumont, who goes by the nickname “Mudd,” for injury to an elderly person after he allegedly assaulted a 68-year-old woman in her apartment April 30 of this year.

According to the probable cause affidavit for Wilson’s arrest, officers were dispatched to the St. Elizabeth Hospital Intensive Care Unit on May 4 in reference to an assault. The victim told police she had been assaulted at her residence in the Pointe North Apartments at 3710 Magnolia Ave. She described her assailant as a black male with dreadlocks going by the name Mudd. Mudd, aka Wilson, who knew her nephew and had been staying at her apartment for four months because he had no permanent residence.

The day of the alleged assault, the woman told police she asked Mudd to leave. That’s when she says he became violent. According to the elderly victim, Mudd shoved her to the ground, causing her to break her hip, her right wrist, fracture her right femoral neck and hit her head, which caused a brain injury.

The victim identified Wilson as Mudd, her assailant.

If convicted of the assault on the elderly woman, a first-degree felony, Wilson from five to 99 years or life in prison.
