ATV accident injures two in Jefferson County

Two people were injured and taken to area hospitals for evaluation after an ATV accident on Humble Camp Road In Jefferson County on Jan. 24, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reports.

According to a news release from Trooper Stephanie Davis, DPS received a report of a crash on Humble Camp Road involving two All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) at about 1 p.m. Sunday.

Both ATVs were traveling westbound on Humble Camp Road near Hillebrandt Road in Jefferson County. One ATV was driven by a 16-year old male with a 3-year old passenger. The second ATV was following the other ATV and was driven by a 27-year-old female with a 4-year-old passenger. For an unknown reason, the second ATV clipped the left rear portion of the first ATV causing both vehicles to travel off the roadway. Both vehicles flipped over ejecting the female driver and the 4-year-old child. No one was wearing a helmet.

The driver of the second ATV, Katie Baird, 27, of Beaumont and her 4-year-old passenger were transported to St. Elizabeth hospital. Both are expected to recover.  The 16-year-old driver of the first ATV and his 3-year-old passenger were not seriously injured and were not transported to the hospital.

Troopers continue to investigate this crash and will issue citations for Operating an ATV on a public roadway.

There are no further details to be released.
