Avery Trace apartments shooting suspect confesses

A Port Arthur man arrested in connection with a recent fatal shooting admitted to shooting the victim in the chest, according to documents obtained from the Port Arthur Police Department.

Diante Malik Burrell, 20, told officers that he used “his Draco gun,” which he described as an AK-47 pistol, according to an arrest affidavit.

Port Arthur police officers responded to a shooting at the Avery Trace Apartment complex on Nov. 7 at about 7:35 p.m.

The officers found that Javonte Jack had been shot several times in the chest, according to the document. Jack was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

On Nov. 8 around 9 a.m., Burrell ran when detectives confronted him at a house on 4th Street, but was arrested shortly after.
