Deremick Jamaal Hunter

Sunday, August 13, 2017 at 7:29 a.m., officers responded to a residence in the 5000 block of Brace Street in reference to a victim of a shooting, Officer Carol Riley said in a release.

Upon arrival they located Everett Maurice Mitchell, a 32 year old Beaumont man, deceased on the driveway of the residence.

The investigation revealed Deremick Jamaal Hunter, a 33 year old Beaumont man and friend of the victim, shot Mitchell. Hunter fled the scene in a 1999 Gold Delta 88. At 7:34 a.m., he was traveling east bound in the 8700 block of Lawrence Drive at a high rate of speed. He ran off the road, into a ditch and struck a parked black Ford F250. He fled that scene on foot.

Hunter’s name came up early in the investigation and detectives were looking for him as a person of interest.

One of Hunter’s family members brought him to the station to speak with investigators several hours after the crash.

Hunter gave a statement and was arrested for the murder of Everett Mitchell. He was transported to Jefferson County Correctional Facility.
