Beaumont man indicted for killing officer

John Wesley Nero was indicted by a Jefferson County Grand Jury on Thursday, Sept. 1, for capital murder and child pornography charges.

Nero is facing the death penalty for the death of Beaumont Police Officer Bryan Hebert, who was killed in the line of duty in July.

According to reports of the incident, Nero fled from police the evening of Friday, July 8. He was traveling down Dowlen Road at a high rate of speed, up to 100 miles per hour, when he allegedly rammed his vehicle into Hebert’s vehicle, which in turn struck the officer standing behind it. Hebert was thrown several feet away and ultimately succumbed to the wounds.

Nero was also indicted for a third-degree felony child pornography possession charge.
