Beaumont man steals copper wiring, evades police before capture

Wednesday, Oct. 26, about 8:30 am, Beaumont Police responded to the parking lot of Home Depot at 3910 Eastex Freeway in reference to a theft.

The officer completed a report for theft of copper wiring from the back of vehicle in the parking lot. A witness came forward and gave the license plate of the suspect vehicle. Officers located the suspect, Jerome David James, a 58-year-old Beaumont man, in the 1100 block of Cottonwood, but James fled the area on foot. A short time later, James was apprehended near Live Oak and Grand.

Detectives believe that James may have committed additional auto burglaries as well, due to other stolen items being located with the copper wiring at the Cottonwood address. James was placed under arrest and transported to the Jefferson County Jail were he was booked in for felony theft and evading.
