Beaumont Police Department welcomes three new officers

Beaumont Police Department Chief Jimmy Singletary welcomed three new officers into his law enforcement “family” during a ceremony at the downtown station Sept. 9. Joshua Hall, Demond Janise and Willie Melancon were sworn-in as BPD officers, all taking an oath to protect and serve the community they now represent.

Singletary said he’d spoken to the officers a day prior to administering their oaths, and he was impressed with the singular reason they all gave for wanting to be in law enforcement.

“It was really neat to hear why these three gentleman want to be police officers,” he remarked. “They want to help people, and that’s fantastic. They have good hearts. They’re all smart kids, and they’re going to be good cops.”

Singletary thanked the new officers’ families for being present, asking them to provide support to their loved ones who are entering a dangerous but rewarding field.

“They’re going to see things and hear things that they never really wanted to see and things they can’t forget,” Singletary warned. “It’s not good things, but that’s life.

“We are so proud of any police officer that wants to be a police officer in this day and time. It is the most difficult time ever to be a good cop, and that’s what we want them to be – a good cop.”

Hall is a 23-year-old resident of Beaumont, and a recent graduate of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Police Academy. Hall currently serves in the United States Marine Corps Reserves.
