Beaumont Police looking for large robbery suspect

On Tuesday 01/03/2012 at approximately 5:04 PM, Patrol Division Officers responded to a reported robbery at the Step-In Grocery, located at 2700 Houston St. in Beaumont’s South End.   When Officers arrived, the clerk told them that a suspect had entered the store, displayed a knife, and demanded money.  The clerk began to open the cash register and the suspect slashed at him with the knife.  The clerk suffered a minor wound to his fingers and the suspect took an undetermined amount of cash from the drawer then fled on foot.  He was last seen running west behind the store. 

The clerk described the suspect as a black male, 6’00”, 280-300 pounds, wearing a black jacket and black sunglasses.  Officers conducted an exhaustive search for the suspect but were unable to locate him at that time.  When we do identify and locate this suspect, he will be charged with Aggravated Robbery, a first-degree felony punishable by incarceration for 5-99 years in the state penitentiary.

Beaumont Police Officers observed a vehicle that was reported stolen from Lufkin, Texas. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the 3700 block of E. Lucas. The driver of the stolen vehicle, Dwight Elam, bm,17yoa was arrested and transported to jail to be booked for UUMV and warrants. There were three other passengers in the stolen vehicle who were detained. One passenger was arrested for an outstanding warrant and the other two released. Stolen vehicle was secured and will be released to the owner.
