Beaumont police looking for suspects in aggravated robbery

Police in Beaumont are searching for suspects in an aggravated robbery of a local chain store, reports the Beaumont Police Department.

According to a news release from BPD, on Jan. 7 at 8:55 p.m., officers responded to an aggravated robbery at the Dollar General located at 10 N. 11th street. On arrival officers were told that two black males robbed an employee and two customers at gunpoint. They reportedly entered the business wearing hoodies and masks hiding their faces, both displaying handguns during the robberies.

Witnesses told investigators that the suspects entered the store, walked around and appeared to shop briefly before returning to the front register to purchase diapers.  Suspect #1 then walked behind the counter, brandished a handgun and ordered an employee to open the register and place the money from the register in a cloth bag he brought with him. He then ordered the employee to open the safe, took an unknown amount of cash and placed it in the bag. 

Suspect #2 stood guard on the front door and made several customers lie on the floor during the robbery. As more customers entered the store, they too were ordered to lie on the floor. Suspect #2 took money from two of the customers. Both suspects fled the store on foot and headed southwest across 11th street.

According to BPD Officer Carol Riley, the armed robbers took a 19-year-old and a family of three hostage during the incident. She said detectives are still taking statements from witnesses of the event. The investigation is ongoing.

Suspect #1 is described as short and stocky, wearing a gray hoodie with the LSU emblem on the front, dark pants, dark gloves and a face mask, armed with a black semi-automatic handgun.

Suspect #2 was wearing a black hoodie, dark pants, face mask and was armed with an unknown type handgun.
