Beaumont police mourn loss of K-9 Nicky

Officer Boudreaux and Nicky

The Beaumont Police Department is mourning the loss of a four-legged "brother in blue" as K-9 Nicky died over the weekend, Sgt. Cody Guedry reports.

Nicky "passed away quietly at his home" in the early morning hours of Sunday, June 26, Guedry stated in a news release.

Nicky was 7 1/2 years old and worked for the department for 3 1/2 years. During his time at Beaumont, K-9 Nicky worked primarily first watch patrol and was responsible for locating and apprehending numerous felony suspects, along with many narcotic seizures.

"He was a loyal partner to his handler Officer Boudreaux and was a valued member of the K-9 unit," Guedry remarked. "He was a trusted colleague, beloved partner and friend. He will surely be missed! Thank you, K-9 Nicky, for all your hard work and rest in peace."

A necropsy is planned to determine the exact cause of death.
