BISD meeting rescheduled because of conference

The February meeting of the Beaumont Independent School District Board of Trustees has been rescheduled because most school administrators, including Carrol Thomas and several BISD board members will be attending the Texas Association of Black School Educators (TABSE) meeting in San Antonio.

The San Antonio meeting comes on the heels of BISD spending more than $100,000 to send numerous employees to New Orleans for a meeting of the National Alliance of Black School Educators. Thomas was the outgoing president of the group, which heard a message from Jessie Jackson. The district also sent students from the Ozen Choir to perform at the event.

Additionally, several BISD employees just returned from Mid-Winter Conference in Austin two weeks ago and Jessie Haynes and Craig Eichhorn are currently in Austin for a public relations conference. Haynes will leave Austin and head to San Antonio, where event for the TABSE event gets underway Thursday.

The regular BISD board meeting will be held Thursday, Feb 23, 2012, beginning at 7:15 p.m.

A Waste of Money ? Maybe

Mr Arrington may be presenting a calculated 'guess' that BISD funds are being wasted at the NABSE and/or TABSE conventions. Though, his 'guess' could be quickly dispelled IF a qualified, responsible, accountable voice of BISD could/would qualify exactly and substantively what was gained by attending such conventions that are focussed primarily on only one segment of the general population.

Let's piss off another hundred grand

I wonder how much money this trip will cost the taxpayers. Perhaps if the district did not feel as if they had to bring half of their employees to every event that had "Black" in they title, they would not feel the need to hustle the City for $35,000 to pay for the school playground on their property. Isn't it wonderful how money can fall from the sky for the "right" activity. I guess some of the BISD higher- ups are so determined to be the biggest fish in the sea that they will try to swim in a test tube so that they can be important.
