Diesel fuel spilled on US 96 near the Neches River Bridge Nov. 9 around 9:45 a.m. when a tire blew on a trailer, Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Stephanie Davis said in a release.

The trailer disconnected from the pickup truck hauling it and rolled over, damaging the diesel tank in the trailer and spilling fuel onto the roadway, Davis said.

A 2009 Chevrolet pickup truck was hauling the trailer when the accident occurred.

The driver of the Chevrolet, an 85 year old Orange man, was not injured and refused medical treatment at the scene.

All southbound traffic lanes of US 96 at the Neches River Bridge were closed due to the crash and southbound traffic was diverted to FM 105. HazMat crews were sent to clean the diesel spill from the roadway.

US 96 southbound reopened by 1:01 p.m.
