Boys’ Haven announces spring fundraising events

Boys’ Haven has announced several upcoming spring fundraising events that will help the nonprofit build new cottages for its residents. Boys’ Haven announced its Continuing Our Legacy Capital Campaign in December.

“The Capital Campaign’s purpose is to build three new cottages out here at Boys’ Haven,” CEO Tony Castillo said at a ribbon cutting for the campaign in December 2015. “We’re going to build the cottages primarily not to expand the number of beds that we have, but to get these guys out of the older cottages. … We’re going to build cottages that are big enough so each guy can have their own bedroom.”

Events like the 31st annual Crawfish, Food & Music Festival, scheduled for Saturday, May 7, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., at Parkdale Mall in Beaumont, will help Boys’ Haven make this dream a reality.

This year’s festival will have a variety of music including Zydeco, country, Texas rock, and oldies. There will also be a free kids area and petting zoo, along with a car show.

“This event is our primary fundraiser for Boys’ Haven, and we hope Southeast Texans will join us this year for a day of great food, music and entertainment,” said Denise Berry, developmental director for Boys’ Haven.

Other notable upcoming events include a barbecue fundraiser Saturday, April 30, from 10-3. The event will be held at Texas Marine in Beaumont, located at 1140 I-10 Frontage Rd. beside the Acura dealership. Barbecue plates will be $10 each. Also, for anyone who purchases a boat on April 30, Texas Marine has agreed to donate $200 to Boys’ Haven Continuing Our Legacy Capital Campaign.

The fun continues with a car and bike show Saturday, May 14, hosted by Goodyear Auto Service Center at 4130 Dowlen Road in Beaumont from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Funds raised from this event will also help Boys’ Haven build new cottages.

“Join us for a fun filled day of cars, trucks, motorcycles and rat rods,” Berry said. “There will also be raffles throughout the day.”

Judging will begin at 1 p.m. Call Goodyear at (409) 899-4434 to pre-register.

Finally, G&G Enterprises Construction Corp & Air Services is hosting a ragball tournament on Saturday, May 21, at the Beaumont Athletic Complex at 950 Langham Road starting at 9 a.m.

“We need 15 teams to make this event a success,” Berry said.

Boys’ Haven has been the mainstay in Southeast Texas, providing services to children in need, Berry said.

“It is a legacy that continues,” she said. “With the award of a state contract in November 2011 to begin providing services to children placed by Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, the need for services has increased with the increase of the number of children we serve. The legacy has continued because of the generosity of the community of Beaumont and Southeast Texas. With the continued help from our sponsors and the community, the legacy will live on, and many more children will receive the services they so desperately need.”
