Buna man hit on highway hospitalized

A man was struck in traffic at SH 62 in Orange County, near the Mauriceville Volunteer Fire Department, on March 8.

According to a press release by The Texas Department of Public Safety, initial reports indicate that a 2003 Ford pickup truck was disabled on the northbound shoulder of SH 62. The driver realized that he needed gasoline and got out of his vehicle when he was struck by a 2017 Dodge pickup truck. The pedestrian, Todd Williams, 44, of Buna, was transported by medical helicopter to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries.  The passenger of the Ford, Leslie Marcantel of Deweyville, was not injured.

The driver of the Dodge, 53-year-old Edwin Bush of Kirbyville, was not injured in the crash. Bush was issued a traffic citation for failure to drive in a single lane.

This is an ongoing crash investigation and there are no additional details to be released.
