A wanted man was taken into custody by Nederland Police last week, the department said in a release.

On Dec. 7, 2017 at about 9:19 a.m., Nederland Police responded to a suspicious person call in the 3300 block of Tipps Drive. Shortly after arriving in the area, Office Kris Boneau observed a black male subject walking between two houses.

When Officer Boneau approached the subject, he fled on foot. During the course of the foot pursuit, Officer Chase Romero and Sgt. David Odom observed the suspect crossing Nashville Avenue.

The foot pursuit continued, and the suspect later identified as Octavius Chazrell Jackson, 28, was apprehended by Officers Romero, Odom, and Boneau in a yard in the 3100 block of Nashville Avenue.

Jackson has one outstanding Jefferson County warrant charging him with burglary of a babitation and is a suspect in multiple residential burglaries throughout Jefferson County.

Jackson was booked in Jefferson County Jail on the burglary warrant. Nederland Police will be filing charges on him for evading arrest, and the department said that they anticipate he will be charged with several other burglaries.

Jefferson County Sheriff's Office had been looking for Jackson in connection with a residential burglary that occurred on Nov. 29.

A victim reported that a burglary occurred between 8:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. while the victim was away from his home, Capt. Crystal Holmes said in a statement Dec. 1. The surveillance video from Jakes Fireworks stand next door caught the burglary on video with a time stamp of 10:03 a.m.

When the victim watched the video, he identified the two suspects as Melissa Wood, 49, of Beaumont and Octavius Jackson, 28, of Beaumont, Holmes said. The victim knew the two suspects and they had knowledge of valuables in his home.

Melissa Wood is in the Jefferson County Correctional Facility being held on a $75,000 bond for Burglary of a Habitation. Holmes encouraged anyone who knew about Jackson's whereabouts to call Crime Stoppers.
