California man charged with injury to a child
A California man is being held on a $100,000 bond in the Jefferson County Jail after a 2-year-old he was baby-sitting suffered severe brain injuries.
Vaughn Days, 22, of Anaheim, Calif., was arrested Oct. 21 and was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury Nov. 14 on a charge of injury to a child, a first-degree felony.
According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by The Examiner, police responded to trauma room No. 2 at Beaumont Baptist Hospital to find 2-year-old Kira House with severe trauma to the head.
After interviewing Dr. Imo Aisiku, who was treating the child, police learned House’s injuries were not naturally occurring.
The 2-year-old House suffered from “subdural brain swelling” and was moved via helicopter to Texas Children’s Hospital where she remains in critical condition, according to a BPD press release.
When police interviewed Days, who was the boyfriend of the child’s mother at the time, he admitted to shaking baby House “from back to front,” according to the affidavit.
Days is currently housed in the Jefferson County jail where he is awaiting a trial date of Dec. 9 in Judge Layne Walker’s 252nd Criminal District Court.
