Champagne & Ribs - The Woodstock Party of the Year!

The Woodstock Music and Art Fair that took place Aug. 15-18, 1969, helped change music forever. More than 400,000 people flocked to a dairy farm in New York to see performances by Janis Joplin, Carlos Santana, Creedence Clear Water Revival, The Band, Joe Cocker, The Who, and who can forget Jimi Hendrix’s iconic rendition of the “Star Spangled Banner”?

That festival would have a great impact and influence on the decade that was to come — on not only the music, but also the fashion and culture of the 1970s. Join the Gift of Life in remembering and reliving those times at its “outtasight” 1970s themed party — Champagne & Ribs — on Thursday, April 14, at Ford Park, beginning at 6:30 p.m.  It’s one night of peace and music with all proceeds benefiting the Gift of Life’s prostate cancer initiatives that include free prostate cancer screenings, primary care tests and diagnostic evaluations, followed by prostate cancer treatment, for medically underserved men in Southeast Texas. In addition to these lifesaving medical services, the program provides educational materials and outreach presentations throughout the area.

The event will be chaired by Karen Fontenot, Claudia Gentile, Charlotte Mains and Maureen Winchell, with sponsorship co-chairs Lisa and Sammy Parigi. Groovy honorary co-chairs are Sherry and Judge Jeff Branick, Nancy and Dr. Kenneth Evans, and Jean and Dr. John Henderson.

This year’s “awesome” honorees are Joe Tortorice, Judge Thad Heartfield, Dr. J. Denton Harris IV, and Commissioner Bo “Everette” Alfred.

Alfred is a proponent of public health in his role as Jefferson County commissioner, Precinct 4, and since its inception, Commissioner Alfred has shown fervent support of the Gift of Life and has worked to spread awareness of the organization’s Prostate Cancer Awareness Program and has served as honorary chair of the initiative.

Dr. Harris is a prominent urologist and founding partner of Southeast Texas Urology Associates. He has been a longtime advocate of the Gift of Life’s Prostate Cancer Awareness Program and his compassion for the region is evident in his personal concern for the welfare of Southeast Texas men while lending his medical expertise, Harris has graciously provided physical exams at Gift of Life Men’s health screenings, helping to diagnose and treat life-threatening disease for local men in need.

Founder of Jason’s Deli, Totorice Jr. is an entrepreneur with a sincere dedication to making a difference in the lives of his employees and neighbors. As a generous humanitarian, Tortorice supports numerous causes that improve the health and wellness of the community and has demonstrated an enduring commitment to the Gift of Life. Additionally, through his leadership, Jason’s Deli has generously sponsored a variety of Gift of Life events and initiatives.
