Collision in Beaumont's west end claims life of Port Arthur resident

A two-vehicle collision in Beaumont's west end on Friday, Sept. 18, 2015 resulted in the death of a Port Arthur resident.

According to a press release from the City of Beaumont, just before 11 p.m. Friday, Beaumont PD officers responded to a collision at the intersection of Major Drive and Highway 105. Upon arrival, it is reported two white Ford F-150 trucks were resting against the traffic light pole in the intersection.

Witnesses claimed the first truck, whose driver previously ran a red light at Highway 105 and Tram Road, failed to stop at a red light on Highway 105 and Major Drive, striking the second truck. The driver of the second truck was traveling southbound on Major Drive and proceeded to turn east onto Highway 105 at a green light. The failure of the first truck to stop resulted in the vehicles colliding.

The driver of the vehicle that ran the red light, a Port Arthur resident, suffered fatal injuries. The driver of the second was transported to a local hospital and is expected to live.
