Community Christian School student offered LU Mirabeau Scholarship

McAfee

Senior Matthew McAfee of Community Christian School in Orange was selected as a member of the eighth class of the prestigious Mirabeau Scholars at Lamar University and was offered a Mirabeau Scholarship.  The Mirabeau Scholarship is one of the most valuable academic scholarships offered by Lamar University and will cover full tuition, fees, books, room and board, and books.

“I am grateful to Lamar University," McAfee said. “This scholarship means that I will not have to work to put myself through school.  I can just concentrate on school and not worry about bills.”

To be considered for the Mirabeau Scholarship McAfee had to first be accepted into Lamar University.  He also had to score a 1250 on the SAT or a 28 on the ACT, as well as have a record of demonstrated academic excellence.  McAfee also had to show that he was active in service, and/or creative endeavors, and send an academic goals essay.  Each Mirabeau Scholar is nominated by a college dean, and selected by the Provost following an extensive interview/audition and a rigorous credentials review.

McAfee plans on majoring in biology, and would like to become an anesthesiologist or a teacher.
