Constable warned of campaign violation

Constable Nick Saleme allegedly in violation of election law

An allegedly visible violation of campaign rules put a Jefferson County official on the hotseat Tuesday, Feb. 2. According to Jefferson County District Attorney Bob Wortham, county Constable Precinct No. 1 “Nick” Saleme could be found in violation of campaign law due to inclusion of his county-issued email address on posted signage.

Wortham said that he advised Saleme to remove the email from the signs, but other intervention may be meted out in the future.

“It is my duty as district attorney to report the allegations of improper election acts to the Texas Ethics Commission and for the commission to take the appropriate action necessary,” Wortham stated.
