Crack cocaine found on arrestee in Orange

A woman in Orange arrested for public intoxication found herself in even more trouble after police found crack cocaine in her possession during a strip search at the Orange County Jail.

According to a police report from OPD, police arrested 30-year-old Tosha Ann Brown of Orange for public intoxication after an officer observed the woman standing in the middle of the intersection of John Street and 11th Street in Orange early Thursday morning, June 6, at about 3:18 a.m. OPD Officer Taylor Saleme reported that upon making contact with Brown, she initially told him her name was Keisha Brown and gave an incorrect date of birth. Brown was speaking in a "fast, rapid speech and could not finish complete sentences," and seemingly had trouble keeping her balance, according to Saleme's report. When questioned, the female suspect allegedly told the officer she is a user of PCP, crack cocaine and marijuana and had partaken in all three previously in the evening. Upon a search of her pockets, police found what appeared to be a crack pipe. Brown was placed into custody for public intoxication and transported to the Orange County Jail.

After being taken to the jail, a strip search was conducted by a booking officer. The officer reported the suspect, Brown, told her she had crack hidden somewhere on her person. The officer found a small clear bag with an off-white, rocklike substance police believe to be crack cocaine.

During the booking process, Saleme reported that the female suspect gave several different social security numbers and spelled her name differently multiple times. She was finally positively identified as Tosha Ann Brown. According to the report, Brown admitted she intentionally provided false information in an effort to conceal her true identity. In addition the public intoxication charge, police also charged Brown with having a prohibited substance in a correctional facility, possession of a controlled substance, and failure to identify.
