Cyclist killed in Vidor accident

A cyclist was killed after a Jeep veered off the road and struck him in Vidor early Friday morning, June 28, 2013.

Village Mills resident Randy Holland, 42, was struck and killed when the driver of a Jeep Wrangler, identified as Winnie resident James Lunsford, left the roadway and collided with both a telephone pole and Holland, who was riding his bicycle on Orange Street near Vidor High School at approximately 1:30 a.m. on June 28, according to a press release from the Vidor Police Department. Holland was pronounced dead at the scene by Orange County Pct. 3 Justice of the Peace Janice Menard, and Lunsford was taken to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

No charges were brought against Lunsford at the time of the accident, but a blood sample was obtained for analysis to verify whether or not alcohol or drugs played a part in the incident.
