DA honored with Community Builder award

Jefferson County Criminal District Attorney Bob Wortham was the recipient of the Community Builder Award from the Beaumont Masonic Lodge No. 286, presented by members of the group Tuesday, July 12, at the Jefferson County Courthouse.

According to the award inscription, the honor went to Wortham because of his “distinguished service and personal contributions” to the community of Beaumont.

“I thought it was very nice,” Wortham said, who then praised the staff who supports him in his endeavors. “I didn’t accept this award on behalf of myself. I accepted it on behalf of all the staff in the office, the judges, and their personnel – everybody in the criminal justice system … that tries to make Jefferson County a better and safer place to live.”

This is the second Masonic Community Builder award bestowed upon the longtime public servant. Wortham was honored with the Masonic Grand Lodge of Texas distinction in 1993.
