Dayton man pronounced deceased after multi-vehicle accident

A 26-year-old male from Dayton, Texas was pronounced dead on the morning of March 9, after a multiple vehicle crash occurred at highway 73, near Big Hill Road, in Jefferson County.

According to a press release by The Texas Department of Public Safety, Preliminary reports indicate that a 2008 Peterbuilt truck tractor semi-trailer was traveling eastbound on SH 73.  The driver of the 18-wheeler slowed to make a right turn onto Wilbur Road when its trailer was impacted by a 2016 Chrysler passenger vehicle.

The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Ray Chesson.  His identity will not be released until family members have been notified.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, Jesus Chapa, 75, of Alvin, Texas, did not sustain any injuries in the crash.

All information is preliminary as Troopers work to determine the exact factors that contributed to this fatal crash.
