A hidden compartment in a vehicle stopped as part of a narcotics investigation couldn't conceal a kilo of heroin from Beaumont K-9 officers, reports the Beaumont Police Department (BPD).

According to a news release from BPD Sgt. Cody Guedry, Beaumont Narcotics officers assisted agents from the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) with an investigation that led to a traffic stop of a vehicle on Highway 90 near Reynolds Road at about 5 p.m. on March 28. Beaumont K-9 officers were dispatched, and Officer Jaris alerted on a hidden compartment in the vehicle revealing approximately a kilo of heroin and a large amount of U.S. currency. Police discovered a large amount of Promethazine when another vehicle was stopped during the investigation, reported Guedry.

And, the investigation didn't stop there. A search of a residence in the 9500 block of Mclean revealed crack cocaine, ecstasy, heroin, and several handguns.

Two men were arrested and charged. Irvin Rojas, 27, was charged with possession of controlled substance. Billy Joseph, 26, was charged with possession of controlled substance and unlawful possession of firearm by a felon.
