Deadline tomorrow night to apply for Red Cross financial assistance

The deadline to apply for American Red Cross Hurricane Harvey financial assistance is 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10.

This Red Cross financial assistance payment of $400 is available to qualifying households that were severely impacted by Harvey within 39 Texas counties, according to Red Cross Regional Communications Manager Ekland Durousseau. The focus of the financial assistance program is to deliver funds to households whose primary residence was severely affected by the storm, who were displaced for several days and who have expressed an immediate need for help with life-sustaining items, she added.

The application is available at Applicants will be asked to provide basic identifying information and answer questions regarding the ways that Hurricane Harvey impacted their household.

As of Oct. 9, Durousseau reports that the Red Cross has authorized payment to more than 477,000 households totaling more than $190 million in direct financial assistance – and applications are still being processed.

Those still wanting to apply for the financial aid can call (800) RED-CROSS with questions or for assistance, but should expect significant wait times due to current call times and volumes.

Only one application is necessary, and duplicate applications only slow the process down, Durousseau said.
