Deputies arrest Orange man for attempted murder in Louisiana

Deputies with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office arrested 36-year-old Kevin S. Edwards of Orange Feb. 5 and charged him with attempted first-degree murder following a shooting that severely injured a Louisiana man who was still in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) recovering from surgery Feb. 6, reports the sheriff's office.

According to a news release from Calcasieu Parish, deputies responded to Sharon Lane in Lake Charles in reference to a shooting at about 1:20 a.m.

Upon arrival at the location, witnesses reportedly told deputies that Edwards had shot a man inside the residence by shooting through the bathroom window. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he underwent emergency surgery and remained in ICU. The homeowner, who deputies say is a former acquaintance of Edwards, suffered minor injuries to her arm from glass debris from the shooting. Detectives investigating the case soon learned that Edwards was living in Orange. With the assistance of Texas law enforcement authorities, they were able to locate him later the same day at a residence he had been staying at for approximately one week. Edwards reportedly agreed to go to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’ Office to speak with detectives and confirmed his involvement in the shooting. After a search of the property where Edwards was located, detectives also located the assault rifle they believe was used during the shooting .

Edwards was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. He was charged with attempted first-degree murder. Judge Ron Ware set his bond at $120,000.
