Deputies recover stolen travel trailer near popular gambling spot

A thief who stole a Dakota travel trailer from an intersection in Mauriceville stopped near a popular gambling spot sometime following the theft, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) who returned the trailer to its rightful owner after it was recovered near Delta Downs in Vinton, Louisiana.

OCSO reported April 6 that the theft of the travel trailer occured on April 2 while it was parked near the intersection of Highway 62 and Highway 12 shortly after 3 p.m. Video footage of the incident showed that someone hooked the trailer up to what appeared to be a dark-colored truck and drove away. After the initial investigation, Orange County detectives believed the suspect or suspects traveled west on Highway 12, taking a right on Woodridge Drive and crossing over to Texla Road (FM 2802).

According to OCSO, detectives from the office and deputies with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office recovered the 2007 Dakota travel trailer at about 10:15 a.m. on April 17. The trailer was located near the Delta Downs Casino along Highway 109 South in Vinton.

Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances involving the theft.
