DPS investigates fatal accident

Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) are investigating a fatal accident in Japser County involving a commercial vehicle and a passenger car Nov. 13.

At approximately 7:25 p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) received a report of a multiple-vehicle crash on US 96 in Jasper County. The crash occurred near Kirbyville Water Supply.

Initial reports indicated that a truck tractor towing a pole trailer was struck by an Acura passenger vehicle traveling northbound on US 96. After further investigation, troopers determined that the driver of the commercial motor vehicle was also traveling northbound on US 96 and pulled onto the shoulder. The driver of the truck tractor attempted to make a turn across US 96 and pulled into the path of the Acura. The Acura passenger vehicle struck the truck tractor's pole trailer.

The driver of the Acura, 35-year-old Joshua Dennis of Kirbyville, was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Mike Smith.

The driver of the commercial motor vehicle, 61-year-old Gary Willis of Jasper, was not visibly injured.

All information is preliminary as troopers continue to investigate this fatal crash.
