DPS investigating accident between motorcycle and SUV

Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Stephanie Davis reported May 9 that troopers are investigating a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV at Highway 105 and Keith Road in Jefferson County at about 7:30 a.m.

According to Davis, a Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Highway 105. A white Toyota SUV traveling northbound on Keith Road came to a stop at the intersection of Highway 105 and Keith Road. Investigators believe the driver of the SUV failed to yield the right of way and pulled out in front of the motorcycle. The motorcycle collided with the SUV on the driver-side of the vehicle.

The driver of the motorcycle, 44-year-old David Gray of Cleveland, was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital with serious injuries. Davis reports that Gray sustained a fractured right arm and several lacerations on his head and face. Gray was undergoing surgery to his arm the day of the accident, but was expected to recover.  He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Toyota, 19-year-old Madison Cowart of Sour Lake, was transported to Baptist Hospital with minor injuries.

Cowart was issued a traffic citation for failure to yield the right of way at a stopped intersection.

Jefferson County Troopers are still investigating the crash, and all information is preliminary, Davis reports.
