"Drive-by" shooting; patron shot in vehicle while leaving local bar

Beaumont Police Department (BPD) detectives are investigating an incident that left a young woman who was leaving a local bar with a gunshot wound, reports Officer Carol Riley. 

According to a news release from BPD, officers responded to Wizard Tattoo at 5780 S. MLK Pkwy. in reference to shots fired at 2:21 a.m. on Dec. 11. Responding officers did not locate a shooting scene or a victim at the location, but a received a call from Baptist Hospital reporting that a 21-year-old female was there suffering from a gunshot wound to her lower body. 

The young woman told investigating officers that she and her friends were in a car and leaving the Getaway Club at 5750 S. MLK Pkwy. As she approached the stop sign at Spindletop and MLK, she told officers, she heard several gun shots and felt pain to her lower body. She got out of the driver's seat and had one of the other passengers transport her to the hospital. Her injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, according to Riley.
