Driver crashes onto football field in Orange

Police believe a medical episode is responsible for a driver striking another car and dumpster before crashing onto to the football field at the West Orange-Cove Middle School during little league practice, reports Orange Police Department (OPD) Capt. W.K. Longlois.

Longlois reports, emergency personnel responded to the football field in the rear of West Orange-Cove Middle School Oct. 10 at about 6:30 p.m. regarding a vehicle accident. The investigation determined that a Ford Explorer, driven by a fifty-five year old Orange man, lost control in the parking lot. The vehicle accelerated through the parking lot, struck another parked car and then a large trash dumpster before traveling onto the football field. At the time of the accident, children and parents were using the football field for little league practice, stated Longlois.

No one was injured as a result of the accident, and police believe that the driver of the Ford Explorer suffered a medical episode that caused him to lose control of the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was transported by Acadian EMS to a local hospital and has also been referred to a medical advisory board for an examination regarding his suitability to operate a motor vehicle, asserts OPD.
