Drowning in Port Arthur

Investigators report that one person is deceased after what appears to be an accidental drowning in Port Arthur.

Port Arthur Police, firefighters, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a someone falling from a dock into the water near Pleasure Island in Port Arthur on June 11 at about 1:52 p.m. According to a news release from PAPD, a resident of Pleasure Island heard and observed someone fall from the City of Port Arthur Dock located directly behind the Port Arthur City Hall at 444 4th St. The witness flagged down a nearby Coast Guard vessel and reported the incident. They immediately launched a search and were joined by JCSO's Marine Unit and Port Arthur Fire and Rescue. A short time later, police report, an unidentified subject was pulled from the Sabine-Neches Ship Channel. Judge Tom Gillam responded to the scene and pronounced the victim dead.

The victim was later identified as 37-year-old Marlin Wayne Francois, a lifelong resident of Port Arthur.

Police report no foul play is suspected, and believe the incident to have been a tragic accident.
