Elderly man attacked, robbed in Nederland

An elderly Nederland resident was beaten and robbed on May 9 at his home in the 700 block of South 4th Street, police report.

According to a news release from the Nederland Police Department, dispatch received a call at approximately 10:15 a.m. reporting the incident. At the scene, the victim, an 81-year-old man, told officers he had been away from his home for the morning and was returning, pulling into his garage to park. When he exited the vehicle, he said, an unknown person attacked and robbed him, stealing an undetermined amount of cash.

The victim was transported to The Medical Center of Southeast Texas injuries sustained during the attack, and later transferred to Memorial Houston Hospital for surgery. He is currently in good condition.

"We see a lot of similarities," Bush said regarding the aggravated robberies elderly men in Orange County and in Nederland. "The physical description is very close too."

The suspect is described as a large black male in his 20’s. At the time of the robbery, police report, he was wearing a black beanie-style cap, a grey long-sleeved shirt, and black pants. He was driving a dark-colored, possibly black, Jeep Cherokee. Anyone with information about this robbery is asked to contact The Nederland Police Department at (409) 722-4965.
