Family argument leads to shooting death

Lance Jaccoby Moore

A late Wednesday night argument between two cousins left one man dead after he was shot with a rifle.

Police responded to a call of shots fired at the 10000 block of Dusty Lane Feb. 27 at about 11:12 p.m. to find 41-yea-old Lorenzo Simon of Beaumont laying in a drainage ditch with a single gun shot wound to his lower body, according to a BPD press release.

EMS arrived shortly thereafter and Simon was rushed to the hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

After interviewing witnesses on the scene, police arrested Lance Jaccoby Moore, 26, of Beaumont. According to the witnesses, the two men had been embroiled in a heated argument when Moore used a rifle to shoot Simon, the press release said.

Moore gave a statement to detectives and witnesses on the scene and Moore was booked in the Jefferson County Jail on one count of murder-family violence.

An autopsy has been ordered by Judge Chesson.

Moore's bond has not been set, according to the press release.
