Fatal accident on I-10 near Ford Park

June 15, at about 7:30 a.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) received a report of a multiple-vehicle crash on I-10 in Jefferson County, Sgt. Stephanie Davis said in a release. The crash occurred about one mile west of Ford Park.

DPS can confirm that one person is deceased and two others have been transported to local hospitals with unknown injuries.

Preliminary reports indicate that a Chevrolet pickup truck and a 2017 Freightliner flatbed were stopped in the outside lane of I-10 due to an earlier crash in the eastbound traffic lanes. The driver of a Dodge pickup truck towing a trailer failed to control speed and rear-ended the commercial motor vehicle. The impact of that initial collision caused the commercial motor vehicle to rear-end the Chevrolet pickup truck.

The driver of the Dodge pickup truck, Shawn Wallace Fincher, 39, of Montgomery, Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Ray Chesson.

The driver of the 2017 Freightliner flatbed was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth hospital and is listed in stable condition.
