Fatal motorcycle accident in Beaumont
The Beaumont Police Department is investigating a fatal accident that left one man dead last night.
According to a news release from BPD, on Thursday, June 10 at about 11:53 p.m., officers responded to S. MLK and E. Elgie in reference to a motor vehicle crash. On arrival officers found a 2011 black, 4-door Nissan Maxima was traveling eastbound in the 500 block of E. Elgie and turned to head northbound on S. MLK. As the driver pulled out into the intersection, a 2005 Honda 600 RR motorcycle, traveling southbound on S. MLK, struck the left passenger area. A 3-year-old, male child was sitting in a car seat in the left passenger side. The motorcycle rider, identified by police as 23-year-old Eduardo Daniel Velazquez Deleon of Mexico, was pronounced dead at the scene. The child was transported by Beaumont EMS to Christus St. Elizabeth's Hospital and later flown by Life Flight to Texas Children's Hospital, where he is listed in critical but stable condition. The driver of the Maxima was stable and treated at St. Elizabeth's.
Deleon was reportedly in town visiting his mother, a Beaumont resident, when the accident occurred.
Beaumont police traffic investigators responded to the crash and are investigating.
